not returning, never returning is an excerpt from a longer text written as part of Crazybull’s MFA graduating project at SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts. The title suggests an unwillingness to solely represent a time that precedes Indigenous people today.
In this 2023 exhibition, we are confronted with red figures and forms painted in oil. Viewers come face to face with fragmented caricature, Indigenous figures knowingly carrying the weight of the colour red on their bodies.
